Assessments

PsychSpan offers the following psychological assessments:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment
PsychSpan offers gold standard ASD assessment protocols, and has the option to add on school observations, and a cognitive assessment if required. ASD assessments completed by PsychSpan also require additional external input from your treating medical practitioner to confirm diagnosis if appropriate in accordance the national Autism assessment guidelines by the AutismCRC.

Cognitive assessments
Cognitive assessments (often referred to as IQ tests) measure an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in the areas of verbal, visual-spatial, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed. They are used to provide valuable information for a wide variety of concerns such as:
- Intellectual disability
- Giftedness
- ADHD
- Specific Learning Disorders

We also offer non-verbal cognitive assessments.

Educational assessments
An educational assessment is an achievement test which provides an indication of the child's strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, spelling and maths. Results may inform educational placement, appropriate intervention or contribute to diagnosis of a Specific Learning Disorder.

Adaptive Behaviour Assessments
Adaptive behaviour assessments are used to determine behaviours across domains such as daily living skills, socialisation and communication. The assessment does not measure what an individual can do but rather what they behaviour they actually engage in on a regular basis. It is used in conjunction with other psychological assessments to current adaptive skills/functioning across multiple contexts.

ADHD Assessments
PsychSpan uses a Clinical interview and either the CAARS (self and observer reports for adults) or Conners - Third Edition, (parent and teacher responses for children) to inform appropriateness of ADHD, the findings of these assessments are included in a comprehensive report. A cognitive assessment can be completed as part of this process upon request.
